During harvest there are basic settings that need configuration (based on many factors) on a combine so that things work smoothly and a farmer can monitor basic information about his crop and machine.
While harvesting barley this week, many settings on the combine were just a little bit off. So, my husband and father-in-law spent a good amount of their harvest time one day making the header, auto-steer, and yield monitor adjustments, among others. By the evening hours, many of those adjustments were complete, with a few still warranting a little work. It is best to get all the little adjustments take care of at the beginning of harvest, or a larger problem may arise later.
It is part of our fall routine on the farm to make adjustments to many different pieces of equipment. And a lot of the machines and technology used are prepped and set up ahead of time – helping those adjustments flow more smoothly and quickly than they otherwise would.
As we prepare for big things in life, we often try to get a few things done ahead of time to prepare. It is easy for something affected by so many factors to have something go wrong or not turn out as expected. How we deal with those situations says something about our character. And like harvest preparation – the best thing we can do is to prepare for those situations. And that preparation is something we could do regularily: spend time with the Lord and His Word.
“Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited. We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have the no right to eat.” Hebrews 13:7-10
Even the world itself was prepared by God’s Word!
“By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.” Hebrews 11:3
