Nope, not hunting. Not fishing. Today is opening day for trails across the country. And signs of spring are continuously popping up. So will you be getting outside to hike a trail somewhere? I will not be near a trail to hike, but I know I will be outside for sure! Who can stay away after a winter full of cold, white and wind? I can’t!
I know many people are excited to dust off their hiking shoes and gear, set aside those winter boots and trek through an outdoor spring wilderness. Spring is full of new life, green and color reappearing after a brown and white winter (well, at least for us northerners anyways) and a fresh outlook.
Similarly, this weekend we are taking a special weekend to celebrate the life that Jesus gave us when he died on the cross and rose back to life. Each day is a new day in Christ. When we ask, He will wash away all the old stuff we have in our lives and make us new and clean.
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” -2 Corinthians 5:17
Of course, that does not make life, or the journey on a hike, easy. But we have hope and we have joy. It is not easy for buds to spring forth or seeds to break through the topsoil always, but the sprouting we see still brings joy! And the joy that spreads to others…oo! How exciting and fresh in a world full of bleak outlooks and sometimes gray scenery. The Lord brought Jesus to give us hope, and to make a way for us to live eternally with our Father.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
So, dust off the old you (and if need be, dust off that old book we call the Bible, too), and look to the Lord to sprout some new life into you and fill you with joy. God is afterall, our Creator and sustainer. He is the giver of life.
“Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” -Genesis 2:7
Then, go dust off those hiking shoes, grab a light jacket, find a sweet trail, and rejoice in His creation! 🙂 It’s one of my favorite things to do! It’s opening day! WAHOO! 🙂
