Rushing River

I was blessed this weekend to spend some girl time away from the usual hustle-and-bustle. A group of five of us girls met up in Duluth to have a weekend getaway camping and hiking excursion. On Saturday, we spent some time hiking in Temperance River State Park. It is a gorgeous park with a wonderful trail alongside the gorge created by the rushing water and then continuing on up to Carlton Peak, where there is a superb view of Lake Superior. I’d recommend the hike to anyone!

Along our hike beside Temerance River waterfalls and gorge areas, our group of gals took a little break to eat dinner and then have devotion time. It was the perfect place for devos, so beautiful, inspiring and the sounds of the water gushing drown out any noise distractions that one might have while focusing on God’s Word and spending time in prayer.

So, as I grabbed my devos spot on some rocks right next to rushing water, I began reading in Genesis 1. God’s creation. That’s where I was. Spending time away from the normal scenery to refresh and bond with some girl friends! I love wandering around in the outdoors because it just reminds me how awesome the Lord is, to create everything He did in a way that flows perfectly, and so beautifully!

After being reminded of His awesome power in Genesis 1, I flipped over to Psalm 91-93.

“The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The Lord has clothed and girded Himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice, the floods lift up their pounding waves. More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty. Your testimonies are fully confirmed; Holiness befits Your house, O Lord, forevermore.” -Psalm 93

It was like the PERFECT passage to read for my surroundings! The waterfalls in front of me are so loud and powerful, demonstrating the influence water has on things. It can change things and it sustains life. Yet, even while it rages and churns (which sometimes gives me a little chill at how powerful it can be), it is a peaceful, calming thing to watch the water move and hear it rush. The Lord is like that. He is powerful and all that He does demonstrates His glory. Yet, He is our peace and our strength in all things, our sustainer of everlasting life.

This weekend was a wonderful reminder of how the Lord is all powerful. And it was also a fantastic time with wonderful memories with a bunch of SUPER gals! I’m thankful the Lord has put wonderful, Godly women in my life as close friends. He has a plan for each one of their lives…and it is amazing how He brings us together in different ways for different reasons. They all encouraged and inspired me in different ways, reminding me of just how valuable encouraging friends are…and friends with a great sense of humor at that! I love each of them.

So, my encouragement to you my readers is this, first…read those passages in the Psalms…God is so amazing! Second, find some wonderful Godly friends to spend time with (who you can trust) and really just be real with one another. That’ll open doors for prayer, encouragement and God to use you all in different ways. Third, go on a fun adventure with them! Seriously, it’s worth it 🙂
