Ice Cream Sandwich

Don’t you just LOVE ice cream related days?? I do! Today is National Ice Cream Sandwich day and in honor of the festivities I toast my ice cream sandwich to yours!

Have you ever noticed that the closer to the end of eating an ice cream sandwich, the more it squishes together and the ice cream starts to squeeze out? (If this doesn’t happen to you…please share your secret, I’m dying to know how…besides eating it lightning fast. There’s no enjoyment in that.)

Sometimes we are like that sandwich. The more we feel pressure and get chipped away at, the more what is inside of us starts to squeeze out. For ice cream sandwiches, it still might taste good…but it can get messy. For us, it can either taste good and be joyful, or it can get messy, too. Sometimes in our failure to realize how we are handling a situation, we cause hurt, sadness or anger in those around us. We may hurt relationships we have with others. Or we might make decisions that jeopardize our own situations, relationships or path we’re headed down.

This is why what we consume each day is important. In times when we are squeezed, our real insides are revealed. If we have a healthy relationship with the Lord, how we react and handle our situation in actions and words will show that. These moments of pressure will come and go, but our actions will always be a sign of where our hearts really are.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” -1 Samuel 16:7

So today while you enjoy your ice cream sandwich (I hope you do), remember…it is important to be filled with joy from the Lord and His Word so that when we get squeezed…we don’t make our situations more messy.

Enjoy your snack! 🙂
