Nothing says good morning on Valentine’s Day like a kiss! I was recently skimming the pages of my Pinterest friends, just to see if there were any new neat ideas. Well, I found one that’s tasty and clever! Giant kisses!!
But first, before we go into all this silliness about kisses, I thought I’d share a tidbit for the day! The origin of Valentine’s Day itself is shrouded with mystery. There are stories of the day created to honor Christina martyrs named St. Valentine, stories of the day originally being a fertility festival in honor of a Roman god and the Roman founders. In many accounts, the day became a day to celebrate love in the middle ages.
No matter what it’s origins are, it is a reminder to us about the love Christ Jesus has shown for us and how we need to share His love with those around us. As a culture, we seem to gear up and focus for this one day. In our Christian walk, it should really be a reminder of how we are supposed to live every day of our lives.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” -John 3:16
The Lord loves us and cares for us. We are called to do the same for Him & others.
“Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God and walk in all His ways and keep His commandments and hold fast to Him and serve Him will all your heart and with all your soul.” -Joshua 22:5
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law? And He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these commands depend the whole Law and the Prophets.'” -Matthew 22:36-40.
So you see, it is not just one day out of the year that we honor those we love, it is every moment of every day. Even our enemies we should love! Talk about quite the challenge. And I thought making giant kisses would be a challenge…
Don’t those giant kisses just look yummy? And so cool! Well, they are. Try it out for yourself. They only take a quick little bit of time. Use your favorite Rice Crispy bar or Special K bar recipe, then put a little bit in a funnel, smash it down, take it out and set aside. You’ll have a nice giant kiss, in whatever size you choose. Then continue the kiss creation until you’ve finished your mix. I added chocolate chips to mine to add a little chocolaty flavor. Wrap them in tin foil and use a strip of paper for the little note. I have a source who says they are super yummy after he had one 🙂
And so that is my challenge to you. Try to love beyond today. It times when your patience is tested and you want to be angry. Instead, remember every day is a day of love, and remember the Lord’s command to each of us. And for those of you who are in a relationship, lets give giant kisses every day! 🙂
